KENNETH HOLDER & CHRIS PARLETTE

Our founders, Kenneth and Chris, discovered a shared passion for architecture and landscape design at UC Berkeley. Kenneth, the meticulous planner, sat eagerly in the front row, while Chris, known for his spontaneity and passion, settled in the back. They often complemented each other and, at times, mirrored one another.

On parallel paths, they gained practical experience and developed a keen interest in sustainability. In 2019, Holder Parlette was born as an embodiment of their shared ethos. Their ability to translate clients' desires into transformative spaces became their trademark, propelling Holder Parlette to the forefront of high-end sustainable design.

Today, Kenneth and Chris lead their team in crafting distinctive works that seamlessly blend site and structure within the lush landscapes of Northern California and beyond. Amid their busy schedules, they still make time to ride their mountain bikes to site meetings, staying close to nature.

PRINCIPAL
Kenneth Holder received his Masters in Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1997 and, in the years following, worked with prestigious firms in San Francisco and Berkeley. He realized he could further align his architectural practice with his ecological values and spent the following year studying Ecological Architecture in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After completing this program, Kenneth relocated to Marin County to establish his own firm. Kenneth is proud to work in the Bay Area and Napa Wine Region, in cities with storied histories, amongst the natural beauty of Northern California.
PRINCIPAL
Chris Parlette was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Throughout childhood, he nurtured his interests in nature and technology through hiking and biking. His creativity led him to pursue a B.A. in architecture from UC Berkeley, graduating in 1992. He spent the next 20 years at WA Design, ultimately ascending to the role of Lead Architect. During his tenure, the firm made remarkable strides in integrating sustainable technologies and methods. In 2019, Chris joined Kenneth, creating Holder Parlette Architecture. He finds deep fulfillment in his profession, creating harmony between architecture and the earth.

We set ourselves apart through the rigorous integration of a project’s many components. Our exhaustive knowledge of the building process is the companion to a robust understanding of landscaping, and how these elements meet in situ. The recent addition of a dedicated interiors team ensures that from end to end, every experience is tailored to a client’s lifestyle—from interiors, structure, to the surrounding topography. We have extensively collaborated with brands to create cohesive and elegant store identities and large-scale commercial project design and management.
