CAFENATED COFFEE
BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA

Located in Berkeley, California, this project reimagined the site of the old, ‘Roma Cafe,’ which has operated since the 1980s. The clients ran a successful cafe on the north side of town and desired a new location to showcase their artisanal coffee at this high-profile location on College Avenue. The old cafe was gutted entirely, and the main counter area was reconfigured to better address the usage of the space. The main counter continues into a bar, providing a setting for after-hour drinks service as the cafe transforms into an elegant dinner venue by night. Stained rift-sawn oak and blackened steel form the backdrop of the counter area and bring warmth to the space.
