The design of this family home is inspired by the rich, textural landscape and simple agrarian structures of Napa Valley. Carefully sited within an existing clearing of a pinot noir vineyard, this cluster of buildings includes a 6,000 SF main house, pool, artist studio, separate guest house bungalow and a world-class wine cellar. The stair tower acts as a convective chimney to allow warmer air to naturally rise and passively cool the house. The energy needs for the house are minimized by a passive solar concrete slab design and a photovoltaic array is projected to provide for its full energy needs. The house was designed by Holder Design Associates in collaboration with Summit Professional Builders.
