The success of Holder Design comes from our commitment to listening to our clients, helping them trust their own observations, and guiding the discovery of a design solution. We always maintain open communication, establish a clear process and keep focus on the intended result.
Our firm has been fortunate to take on a diverse range of projects in both residential and commercial projects and no matter the challenge, we are serious about the need to create architecture that is meaningful, durable and beautiful.
Kenneth graduated with honors in architecture and later received his Masters in Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1997. After several years working for firms in San Francisco and Berkeley, he left to study ecological architectural principals for a year in Santa Fe. From this experience, he chose to relocate to Marin County to begin his firm to explore, through architecture, what makes the CA Bay Area and Napa Wine Region so special.
Chris graduated with an architecture degree from UC Berkeley in 1992. After 20+ years as the lead architect at wadesign.com, and having
completed numerous solo projects - large and small, Chris and Kenneth have reunited from their days at Berkeley. His work focuses on
the intersection of architecture, landscape, and sustainability.
Kate came to H|D from the highly renowned Backen Gillam and Kroeger Architects during a period when they were becoming known for their signature Napa vernacular style. From this influence, she chose to leave to pursue her own unique style. The integral collaboration between Kate and Kenneth, even from the earliest stages of design, is what yields a more harmonious and considered result.
The success of HDA projects is based upon an open approach where design develops and evolves through a rich process. Sketches, models, 3D imagery and diagrams all form sources of inspiration and communication essential to realizing a project's full potential. Clients are afforded the opportunity to engage the design process through an approachable way. We customize the meetings and presentations in whatever speaks most clearly to them.
